Haywood Gregory Brown, builder and designer

Haywood Gregory Brown, of Owings Mills, was a homebuilder and architectural designer. (Baltimore Sun)

Haywood Gregory Brown, a homebuilder and architectural designer, died of heart failure Feb. 28 at Sinai Hospital. The Owings Mills resident was 64.

Born in Baltimore and raised in Northeast Baltimore's Wilson Park, he was the son of Haywood Brown, a decorated World War II veteran and Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. worker, and Dorothy Brown, a Baltimore public school teacher. He was a 1968 graduate of Polytechnic Institute, where he was a wrestler. He earned a degree in architecture from Howard University.

Mr. Brown joined Harkins Builders and later established his own firm, Citation Builders. He designed and built homes in Baltimore City and in Baltimore and Howard counties. He also worked on the rehabilitation of homes and commercial businesses. At his death, he was doing freelance design work.

Mr. Brown was an Orioles fan. He also played and watched golf.

Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the March Funeral Home, 4300 Wabash Ave.

Survivors include a son, Gregory Darnall Brown; a daughter, Kara Imani Brown; his mother; a brother, Warren Brown; and a granddaughter. All live in Baltimore.
