George R. Weisgerber, retired president of a Carroll County engineering firm, died July 23 of heart failure at his Westminster home. He was 82.
The son of George B. Weisgerber, a Pigtown wallpaper store owner, and Margaret A. Weisgerber, a cosmetologist, George Ronald Weisgerber was born in Baltimore and raised near Clifton Park.
He was a 1951 graduate of Polytechnic Institute and earned a bachelor's degree in 1956 in civil engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.
In 1977, he earned a master's degree in business from the Johns Hopkins University.
He joined the Navy in 1956 and was a graduate of the Naval Officers Candidate School. He served with the Seabees and after being discharged remained in the Naval Reserve for two decades.
Mr. Weisgerber began his career in 1962 with Thomas, Bennett & Hunter Inc., a Westminster supplier of ready-mixed concrete to customers throughout Central Maryland and eastern West Virginia. He was president of the company for a decade before retiring in 2003.
Mr. Weisgerber served as president of the Maryland Chapter of the American Concrete Institute from 1989 to 1990, and had been president of the Maryland Ready Mix Concrete Association.
The longtime Westminster resident was a fan of University of Maryland sports, Orioles, Baltimore Colts and Ravens.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, 21 Carroll St., Westminster, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Mr. Weisgerber is survived by his wife of 57 years, the former Martha Jean Stephens; a son, David Weisgerber of Frederick; two daughters, Susan DiPietro of Westminster and Janice Regan of New Tripoli, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.
