George H. Beatty, a retired Sheppard Pratt Health System security officer who enjoyed performing in musicals, died Thursday at his Timonium home of complications from diabetes and kidney failure. He was 65.
The son of Felix "Snooks" Beatty, a steamfitter, and Lillian Beatty, a homemaker, George Harry Beatty was born in Baltimore and raised in Loch Raven Village.
Mr. Beatty was a 1967 graduate of Calvert Hall College High School, where he played football and baseball. A tenor, he also sang with the Calvert Hall Glee Club and was a member of the drama club.
"He was with the Calvert Hall Glee Club when they sang at the 1967 wedding of Lynda Bird Johnson," the daughter of President Lyndon B. Johnson, said his wife of 42 years, the former Mary Catherine "Cassie" Fabiszak.
In addition to performing in musicals at Calvert Hall and Seton high schools, Mr. Beatty later performed at St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church and F. Scott Black's Towson Dinner Theatre.
Mr. Beatty served as a security officer at Sheppard Pratt Health System from 1979 until 2006, when he retired because of failing health.
In addition to being a sports fan, Mr. Beatty enjoyed watching classic Hollywood movies and collecting trivia.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at noon Saturday in the chapel at Calvert Hall College High School, 8102 W. LaSalle Road, Towson.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Beatty is survived by a son, Patrick Beatty of Timonium; two daughters, Kristin Beatty of Cockeysville and Jennifer McGurn of Dover, Pa.; a brother, Arthur Beatty of Virginia; and three grandchildren.
