Ernest R. "Ernie" Crapster III, a retired pressman who enjoyed gardening and boating, died Saturday of lung and heart failure at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.
The longtime Riva resident was 67.
The son of a baking company manager and a homemaker, Ernest Ridgley Crapster III was born in Baltimore, and when he was 7 moved with his family to Glen Burnie.
After graduating in 1964 from Glen Burnie High School, Mr. Crapster took courses at Anne Arundel Community College.
In the mid-1960s, Mr. Crapster began a seven-year gravure web pressman apprenticeship at The Baltimore Sun.
He later was a pressman for the old Alco Gravure Inc. plant in Ferndale, now Quebecor Inc., for 20 years until retiring in 1999 on a medical disability.
In addition to gardening and boating, Mr. Crapster was an opera fan and liked studying national and world politics.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Crapster was a member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Annapolis, 710 Ridgley Ave., where funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, the former Fern Ann Hardin; and many nieces and nephews.
