Dr. Donald A. Morrison, a retired orthopedic surgeon who had been a partner with Towson Orthopaedic Associates, died Oct. 6 of complications from dementia at Arden Courts of Towson. The longtime Lutherville resident was 82.
The son of Allan A. Morrison, a mining engineer, and Ruth Stevens Morrison, a homemaker, Donald Allan Morrison was born in Spokane, Wash., and spent his early years in Helena, Mont.
With the coming of World War II, his family returned to Spokane when his father was hired as an executive at Alcoa Aluminum Co.
They later moved to Portland, Ore., where Dr. Morrison graduated in 1950 from Ulysses S. Grant High School. He earned a pre-med degree in 1954 from Willamette University in Salem, Ore.
After earning his degree in 1958 from the University of Oregon School of Medicine, Dr. Morrison moved to Baltimore after accepting an internship at Union Memorial Hospital.
His wife of 51 years, the former Jeannine M. Cunningham, a registered nurse whom he met at Union Memorial Hospital, died in 2011.
Dr. Morrison was an accomplished carver of waterfowl figures. He also enjoyed skiing, golf and tennis.
Services are private.
Dr. Morrison is survived by two sons, Robert A. Morrison of Towson and Jeffrey H. Morrison of Williamsburg, Va.; a daughter, Elizabeth M. Kilmer of Annapolis; a sister, Louise VanVliet of Corvallis, Ore.; and five grandchildren.
