Claire M. O'Meara, educator

Claire Margaret O'Meara, a retired educator who was active in her Timonium church, died Thursday from complications of pneumonia at Gilchrist Hospice Care in Towson.

The Towson resident was 91.

The daughter of a salesman and a homemaker, Claire Margaret O'Meara was born in West New York, N.J., and raised in Fairlawn, N.J.

After graduating from Eastside High School in Paterson, N.J., she earned a bachelor's degree in 1941 from Paterson State College.

She taught first grade in the Fairlawn-Radburn School District for 41 years before retiring in 1981.

Ms. O'Meara moved to Towson 20 years ago, where she became an active parishioner of Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ Roman Catholic Church in Timonium.

"She was active in women's groups at the church, tithed and never missed Mass. The church was her life," said Lila O' Meara-Judkins, a sister-in-law who lives in Towson.

Ms. O'Meara was a longtime volunteer with Our Daily Bread.

She enjoyed reading, playing cards and vacationing in Ocean City. She was also an avid Orioles fan.

A funeral and prayer service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday at the Ruck Towson Funeral Home, 1050 York Road.

She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
