Charlotte Lee Miskelly, a retired Stewart's department store sales associate, died of heart failure Tuesday at the Genesis Multi-Medical Center. The former Rodgers Forge resident was 100.
Born Charlotte Lee O'Neill in Baltimore, she was the daughter of James O'Neill and Esther Lee O'Neill. She grew up on East 41st Street and attended St. Thomas Aquinas School and the Institute of Notre Dame.
"She was always the caregiver to her mother and brothers," said her daughter, Joanna Miskelly Cox of Baltimore. "There was always an extra seat at the table for any unannounced guest who rang her doorbell."
Mrs. Miskelly joined the sales staff of the old Stewart & Co. department store on York Road in the 1960s. She worked in yard goods and sewing and in the china and silver departments before the store closed more than 30 years ago.
She lived on Stanmore Road in Rodgers Forge for many years.
She was an accomplished cook and enjoyed sewing. She made a family wedding dress and children's doll clothes. She enjoyed theater and film. She was also an animal fancier.
Plans for a January memorial service are incomplete. She was a member of St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church.
In addition to her daughter, survivors include a son, J. Kevin Miskelly of Armagh Village; and another daughter, E. Jane Loving of Towson. Her husband of nearly 45 years, John A. Miskelly, a safety engineer for National Beer and Sheppard Pratt Hospital, died in 1986.
