Cecilia W. Murphy, a retired telecommunications worker who also had been co-owner of a restaurant at Belvedere Square, died of multiple sclerosis Nov. 11 at her Towson home. She was 55.
The daughter of Robert F. Wintz, a salesman, and Lorraine Gill Wintz, a medical receptionist, Cecilia Marie Wintz was born in Baltimore and raised in Loch Raven Village.
She was a 1977 graduate of Mercy High School and earned a bachelor's degree in 1981 from what is now Notre Dame of Maryland University. In the late 1990s, she earned a master's degree in business from the Johns Hopkins University.
Ms. Murphy worked in telecommunications at USF&G from 1981 to 1999 and in a similar position at Wachovia Bank until retiring in 2008.
From 1982 until 1996, she was co-owner of Murphy's Govans Bar & Grill, across York Road from the Senator Theatre, with her husband, William James Murphy. The couple later divorced.
Ms. Murphy enjoyed baking and particularly enjoyed skiing at Deer Valley, Utah, said her son, Liam S. Murphy of Towson.
Ms. Murphy was a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 8501 Loch Raven Blvd. in Baynesville, where a Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 9 a.m. Friday.
In addition to her son and her mother, who lives in Towson, Ms. Murphy is survived by a brother, William Wintz of Towson; and a sister, Megan Wintz of Towson.
