Ann Field Clark, a retired Roland Park Country School faculty member who taught ballet and dance, died of pneumonia May 26 at Roland Park Place. She was 90.
Born Ann Field in Baltimore, she was the daughter of A. William Field and Katie Klinefelter, who owned the Elite Laundry Co.
Raised on Underwood Road in Guilford, she attended the Calvert School and was a 1944 graduate of Roland Park Country School. She later attended Marjorie Webster Junior College in Washington, D.C.
In 1948 she married Hedley A. Clark III, who worked at Elite Laundry. He founded a men's clothing store, Jas. Brentley's on Roland Avenue.
Mrs. Clark received ballet training at the old Estelle Dennis School in Mount Vernon. Family members said that as a young adult, she founded her own dance school with Charlotte Lochte. Their venture was called the Charlann Dance Studios on Homeland Avenue near Govans.
"Her students ranged in age from the very young to high school seniors. Every season ended with a beautifully costumed recital, oftentimes telling a story in dance," said her son, Hacky Clark of Baltimore.
After she closed the dance school, she joined Roland Park Country School. She later became the bookkeeper at the Talbots apparel store on Falls Road. She retired in 1988.
Mrs. Clark belonged to the Ivy Garden Club and the Junior League, where she had been vice president and treasurer. She volunteered at Roland Park Elementary School and helped teach reading to students whose second language was English. She also enjoyed knitting and made sweaters that incorporated images of owls.
Her husband of 33 years died in 1981.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. David's Episcopal Church, 4400 Roland Ave., where she was a member.
In addition to her son, survivors include another son, Randolph P. Clark, and a daughter, Hathaway C. Ferebee, both of Baltimore; a granddaughter; and two great-grandsons.
