Albert J. Henn, a retired union carpenter and an avid woodworker, died Thursday at Gilchrist Hospice Care in Towson of congestive heart failure. He was 85.
The son of Charles J. Henn, a butcher, and Margaret R. Adams Henn, a homemaker, Albert Joseph Henn was born in Baltimore and attended Catonsville High School.
Mr. Henn, who began his career as a carpenter in 1949, was a member of Carpenter's Union Local 101. He retired in 1985.
The former Randallstown resident later moved to Reisterstown.
"We moved to Reisterstown in 1975 when he built our ranch home. It was his pride and joy," said his wife of 63 years, the former Frances M. Linn. "When he no longer could take care of the maintenance and lawn, we moved to Timonium in 1993."
He enjoyed woodworking and made tables, bookcases and picture frames, his wife said.
"He also liked going to his grandsons' games and taking them to practice," she said.
Mr. Henn was a longtime active member of the Randallstown Optimist Club.
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home, 1212 W. Liberty Road, Winfield.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Henn is survived by a son, David J. Henn of Sykesville; a daughter, Deborah Coffin Locke of Frederick; and three grandsons.
