Trump unloads on ‘Shifty Schiff’ after impeachment opening argument wins rave reviews

To President Trump, he’s the same old Shifty Schiff — even after an impeachment opening argument that won five-star review even from some Republicans.

The embattled president Thursday unleashed a breakfast tweetstorm at Rep. Adam Schiff that repeated many of his favorite insults and ignored the substance of the scathing indictment that the impeachment leader leveled just hours earlier.

“The Democrats & Shifty Schiff, (their) presentation to the Senate was loaded with lies and misrepresentations,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “Witch hunt!”

Trump correctly stated that President Obama withheld aid to some allies. But he ignored Schiff’s damning and detailed claim that, unlike Obama, Trump acted illegally to further his own personal partisan interests by bullying Ukraine.

Up early after jetting in from Davos the day earlier, Trump ignored the rave reviews that Schiff earned for his 2-1/2 hour presentation that effectively tied together what Democrats call Trump’s corrupt scheme to cheat in the 2020 election.

He resumed the prolific presence on Twitter after setting a dubious new record for his presidency with 145 posts on the social media site.

Schiff long ago earned the ire of Trump for his mocking interpretation of Trump’s infamous call to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

On Wednesday, the California Democrat delivered a prosecutorial tour de force that observers on both sides of the aisle called “dazzling.”

Even Trump ally Lindsey Graham was forced to admit Schiff did an excellent job.

“Good job. Really well spoken,” Graham said as he shook hands with Schiff late Wednesday night, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) related.
