'Veep' leaves

Selina Meyer may have won the presidency, but she lost Baltimore. After four seasons on HBO, and in the midst of achieving serious mainstream success, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and company unceremoniously packed their bags and abandoned Baltimore — where the show had been filmed since its beginning — for the warmer and more tax-friendly confines of Los Angeles. “After four years and a long deliberation, we have decided to move the production of ‘Veep' to Los Angeles,” HBO officials wrote in a brief June letter to The Baltimore Sun, making official the loss of a TV franchise that had generated some $114 million in Maryland over four years. Happily, Netflix’s “House of Cards” continues to film in Maryland, giving us all a local rooting interest in at least one TV series.
