'Marley'

Center Stage artistic director Kwame Kwei-Armah’s production of his play, bringing to vivid life the later years of reggae superstar and Jamaican folk hero Bob Marley, broke records at the Calvert Street theater during its monthlong run; more than 22,000 people came to see it, for a total box office of nearly $785,000. And the providential timing of the play’s debut — the story of a man devoted to peace, opening just weeks after violence marred the streets of Baltimore — was lost on no one.
