Baltimore weather forecast: 'Mixed precipitation' to cause slick roads Wednesday morning

Up to a half-inch of mixed precipitation — snow and sleet in some areas — is in the weather forecast for the Baltimore region overnight, which is expected to result in a slippery Wednesday morning commute.

“The main threat will be ice accumulations,” said the National Weather Service in a winter weather advisory, which is in effect from 3 a.m. until 10 a.m. Wednesday. “Some places in the west and north will encounter snow and sleet accumulations as well.”

The weather service warned the public to prepare for icy roads and limited visibility. The advisory is for much of the Baltimore-Washington-Northern Virginia region, except for southern Maryland and the Fredericksburg, Va., area.

Freezing rain is expected to continue until about 1 p.m. Wednesday, and there is a chance of showers until 10 p.m. Wednesday night, the weather service said.

The rest of the week should be drier, with temperatures in the 30s and 40s, but the rain will likely return over the weekend, according to the weather service forecast.
