Cooler-than-normal weather in forecast for Artscape

Artscape is remembered by many for perennially steamy weather, but that won’t be the case for this year’s edition of the weekend arts and music festival.

Temperatures are forecast to peak only around 80 degrees Saturday and Sunday afternoons, about 8 degrees cooler than normal for this time of year. Humidity will also be on the lower end of the spectrum for summertime, with dew points around 60 degrees, about 10 degrees lower than in typical heat spells.

Some storms are possible Sunday afternoon and evening, but no washout is expected.

Last year, temperatures surged into the 90s for each day of Artscape, with a high of 96 degrees on July 19. Highs reached the 90s on the festival's Sunday in 2011, and on each day of the 2010 edition, including a high of 98 degrees on the festival's Friday.

But there have been other relatively cool Artscape weekends in the past five years. In 2012, a high of only 69 degrees was reported on the festival's Saturday, and temperatures also remained in the 80s or cooler throughout Artscape 2009.
