Elephant polo

Elephant polo players from the Spice girls team (Left) and the British Airways British Army team battle it out for 5th place during the final day at the King's Cup Elephant polo tournament in Hua Hin, Thailand.This year marked the 10th edition of the polo tournament with 12 international teams participating for the unusual annual charity sports event. The chosen elephants are young, usually under 20 years of age and taken off the streets for 2 weeks providing them with a forested environment, food, payment for the mahouts and veterinary check ups. This year the charity event raised reportedly over US $100,000 used for caring for more than 60 elephants and their mahouts at the Thai Elephant Conservation center in Lampang.
