1900: William Jennings Bryan

Four years after endorsing a Republican for the first time, The Sun was back to its traditional support for Democrats in 1900 with its endorsement of William Jennigns Bryan (a man H.L. Mencken would later excoriate). Maryland went for McKinley. In light of what the paper saw as McKinley's imperialist policies, Bryan's attack on the gold standard didn't sound like such a big deal to The Sun's editors.
