Thank you for your editorial, "City schools are no 'absolute disaster'" (March 13), which unpacked many of the myths about Baltimore's great educators and students espoused by Gov. Larry Hogan and others across Maryland. I write to ask that, in the future, you call our Baltimore City Public Schools CEO by her correct title.
Dr. Sonja Santelises earned her bachelor's degree, Phi Beta Kappa, from Brown University, her master's degree in education from Columbia University, and her doctorate of education in administration, planning and social policy from Harvard University. She has over 30 years of experience in her field as an educator, academic and administrator. Her high qualification for her post has been evident in every move she has made as CEO and her leadership is a primary reason the state should trust that full and fair funding for Baltimore schools will be money well spent.
A title may seem like a small thing, but it demonstrates respect — respect that both Dr. Santelises and (as you point out) our schools deserve.
Sarah Gannett, Baltimore
