Picture of Trump with European leaders says a lot about our president

A picture is worth a thousand words, and your photo of President Donald Trump, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel is priceless (“Back from Paris, President Trump warns U.S. allies about military 'protection,'” Nov. 12). Here we see Mr. Macron chatting intimately with Ms. Merkel, and President Trump looks annoyed that he is being excluded from the conversation and has only his wife to talk to.

Mr. Macron and Ms. Merkel, to their credit, remain arguably the last remaining champions of democracy worldwide as Presidents Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and Trump espouse nationalism that threatens the world peace that we have enjoyed since the end of World War II. Mr. Trump’s rejection of global treaties as the Paris Accord on global warming, UN accord on refugees, Iran nuclear deal, and agreement on nuclear forces with Russia, as well as his criticism of funding of NATO based on his total misunderstanding of NATO finances are frightening and a betrayal of the values that we fought for in World War II.
