Pimlico better off with development, not track

The Pimlico race track is not the best use for the land that it occupies ("The Preakness needs to stay,” May 23). The neighborhood is badly in need of improvement. The race track and its parking lots occupy the only large available undeveloped piece of land in the area.

The land is well situated near the Jones Falls Expressway, major city streets, and an MTA stop. It is near several colleges, the Social Security Administration, and Sinai Hospital. Development of the land into an attractive office complex could serve businesses, provide many jobs and help revive the neighborhood.
