Maryland toll increases are indefensible

Recently I read Mike Dresser's article concerning the proposed increase in Maryland's tolls, the one in which he defended them, or at least attempted to justify them! ("Increases in bridge, tunnel tolls cruel but fair," June 13.) Mr. Dresser "drank the Kool-Aid" and bought into this travesty of justice.

I believe that these increases have far more to do with supporting President Obama's (anti) energy policies rather than generating funds to maintain and repair infrastructure. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that such increases in tolls will result in Marylanders driving less, possibly quite a bit less! These confiscatory tolls will affect both travel and commerce. Baltimore City and other retail and leisure destinations will suffer, as will our state's tourism industry. And, they will add yet another burden to the already tax-strapped victims of our O'Malley/Obama, anti-working man economic agenda by increasing the costs to get to or seek jobs.

Maryland's legislators, would be better tasked to consider the massive amount of taxpayer money that is being spent to coddle, aid, abet and give sanctuary to thousands of criminal immigrants. Cut that money off and spend it on infrastructure rather than in violation of various sections of the United States code! And, consider this "insanity" for a change: how about giving the taxpayers of Maryland a break!
