Drivers should pay for road and bridge repairs

Regarding the 5-cent gas tax for transportation, in order to be equitable the tax should apply to every Maryland county, and the state Motor Vehicle Administration should determine how many licensed vehicles are in the state to estimate how much tax revenue is needed statewide.

That way, everyone who drives will share the cost of maintaining roads and bridges. If a household has more than one vehicle, it will use the roads more and thus pay more in taxes on gas. Those who use our roads pay should pay for their maintenance as well as for new transportation projects.
