Fracking is a snipe hunt

Fracking will benefit the wealthy few, leaving the rest of us holding the bag.

The whole fracking debate in Maryland reminds me of a snipe hunt.

Here's how it works: Inexperienced people are told about a bird called the "snipe" and given some usually preposterous instructions for how to catch it.

Then they are taken into the woods, given a bag, and told to hold the bag open while the others supposedly go off to chase the snipes into the bag.

In the end they are left alone in the woods "holding the bag."

Except for a relative few large landowners who may or may not make a reasonable sum of money from the energy companies for allowing fracking on their property, the rest of us will be left holding the bag.
