Are presidential politics about to be overtaken by Don-ye?
Donald Trump said he's supportive of a Kanye West White House run and that he thinks he may have even been the one to inspire the celebrity rapper to think about a campaign.
"I was actually watching," Trump told Rolling Stone about West's rant at Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards, during which the musician announced he planned to run for president in 2020.
"I saw him (announce his candidacy on the VMAs), and I said, 'That's very interesting. I wonder who gave him that idea,'" Trump said in an interview published Wednesday.
"He's actually a different kind of person than people think. He's a nice guy," Trump added about West. "I hope to run against him someday."
During the award show, West revealed his political ambitions, but cast doubt on how serious he was after admitting in another part of his speech to rolling "a little something" before the show.
"As you have probably guessed, I have decided to run for president in 2020," West said, to much applause and laughter, during a bizarre 13-minute monologue he delivered after winning the Video Vanguard Award.
