Your editorial urging Edward Snowden to return and face the consequences of his civil disobedience would have been appropriate as recently as 15 years ago ("Snowden speaks," May 30).
Back then, there was a country called the United States of America that did not practice torture, conduct secret trials, detain suspects indefinitely and execute citizens without trial. Unfortunately, if you want Mr. Snowden to return to that country, you'll have to provide him with a time machine.
