How ironic that Dan Rodricks displays such contempt for what he calls the "capitalist democracy we celebrate on the Fourth of July" ("On tax breaks for developers, you can't beat City Hall." July 4).
I wonder why he still lives here. There are many other places that are not "capitalist democracies" where he could reside. Of course, he wouldn't be able to publish his column there without censorship (which, come to think of it, might not be a bad idea).
As far as the sad situation of people still living in below the poverty line, only in a Utopia would that problem be entirely solved. Here, there are too many other factors involved.
