The shooting of a 17-year-old student at Perry Hall High School on the first day of classes made me feel tense and shocked ("School tragedy," Aug. 28). You realize how close you are to others around you when events like this happen.
I am feeling a tangible loss and grief, though I do not know this young man or the majority of students at Perry Hall. But I still pray that he will make it through this and come out in top shape.
I know two students at the school, one a sweet freshman girl, the other an upperclassman who always has a warm smile on her face. Did either of them deserve this?
What could be going on with the 15-year-old shooter that caused him to go homicidal on his schoolmates? He's just a kid. So where does the blame lie?
It's a crazy world, and we all have to live in it. Let's at least strive for some harmony.
