The root of America's problems is a weak moral base

I agree with the basic premises of Jay Hancock's article in the Dec.

26 edition of The Sun relative to the government's failure to plan ahead ("This decade, let's focus on the future for a change". He stresses the "...need to focus government and business alike on the next decade, not the next election or quarter" and indicates a "...need for the right government rules to make it work: property rights, courts, national defense (and) stable currency." All this while still searching for a foundation from which to launch new progress. I submit that none of these can be properly advanced without a foundation built on a moral/ethical base.

If you think back on the examples that Mr. Hancock gave, Enron, CareFirst BlueCross/BlueShield, etc., you will note that all their problems (and ours) can be linked to the deterioration of a moral and/or ethical base leading to greed, corruption and self-aggrandizement to the detriment of the general public. You can make all the rules, regulations and constraints you want, but if they are not carried out by people with a strong moral/ethical base and a sense of personal responsibility, they will surely fail in the future as they have recently. Wake up, America, and return to the roots of our founding fathers.
