Capital Gazette wins special Pulitzer Prize citation for coverage of newsroom shooting that killed five

2015 winner: Marilyn J. Mosby

Baltimore’s state’s attorney became an international celebrity with her impassioned reading of charges against the six police officers accused in Freddie Gray’s arrest and death. She landed on the pages of Vogue and on stage with Prince, and she suddenly became a sought-after speaker nationwide. A year before, some had scoffed at her as the wife of a city councilman running for office. Now it’s her husband, Nick Mosby, who’s riding on his spouse’s coattails to run for mayor. Of course, her fortunes could look quite different in 2016, depending on how her prosecutors handle the officers’ trials.
