Annapolis mayor honored by national GOP

Annapolis Mayor Mike Pantelides has been in Memphis, Tenn., this week to be recognized as a rising star in the Republican party. The Republican National Committee honored Pantelides and four others at its spring meeting.

The other honorees were: Amber Barno, a writer and commentator focused on veterans' issues; Lee Jackson, who was elected to a local school board in Maine at the age of 19; Veronica Muzquiz Edwards, CEO of InGenesis Inc.; and Clarice Navarro, a state representative in Colorado.

The five were honored by RNC officials and participated in a town hall meeting Wednesday.

Pantelides' expenses for the trip were being paid for by the RNC, said Rhonda Wardlaw, a spokeswoman for the city of Annapolis.

Pantelides was elected mayor by a 59-vote margin in November's election, defeating Democratic incumbent Josh Cohen in a heavily Democratic city.
