Ron Paul to stump in Maryland today

Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul will take his presidential campaign to the University of Maryland today, the latest in a series of college campus events that have drawn big crowds but failed to translate into significant support at the polls.

Paul will speak at Ritchie Coliseum on the College Park campus at 7 p.m.

The Paul campaign has performed better than it did in 2008 but has yet to win the popular vote in any state. Paul appears to have a sizable grassroots organization in Maryland and he has raised more money in the state than every other GOP candidate except Mitt Romney.

Maryland is receiving more than its usual share of attention in this year's presidential election, even as Romney appears to be on a trajectory to capture the nomination. The former Massachusetts governor campaigned in Arbutus last week while former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich was in Annapolis and Salisbury on Tuesday.
