Marriotts Ridge (3-8 county, 7-15 overall – No. 5 seed Section II 2A West Region)
Best Case: The team hits the reset button on its season during the break before playoffs, putting aside the recent five-game slide that derailed what was a great month of January. The team’s young core pulls together, gets Troy Hettinger (7.6 ppg) back from injury (concussion), and returns to a winning form. Things start with a win over an Oakland Mills squad that the Mustangs lost to one week earlier and then continue with one of the playoffs’ biggest upsets against top seeded Century in the second round. Sophomore Brandon Held continues to emerge as a future star and Andrew Geiger provides the inside presence needed to give the team balance. The team keeps going, matching its longest win streak of the season (three games) to reach the region finals before running out of gas. But the berth in the region championship game and 10 overall wins put the program back on the map under first-year coach Tim Brady.
