Long Reach (3-8 county, 8-14 overall – No. 7 seed Section I 3A East Region)
Best Case: The Lightning become a poster child for how little records mean in the playoffs and just how important two star players can be in a win-or-go-home scenario. Tre Morgan (15.7 points a game) and Chad Brown (13.8) showcase themselves as one of the area’s most dynamic duos, channeling the recent performance they put together against Atholton where they combined for 38 of Long Reach’s final 42 points in an overtime win. But what truly puts the team over the top en route to wins over Reservoir, Centennial and River Hill is the fact that the supporting cast does their part as well. Emmanuel Ekop, Spencer Willis and Xander Casserly all chip in on the glass, John Shupe hits a couple big shots on the perimeter, and Pierre Young and Josh Jones provide the kind of versatility needed to fill in the gaps. The team falls short against Stephen Decatur in the region final, but the three-game winning streak is the team’s longest of the season.
