Speierman graduated from Hammond High School as the county’s most decorated softball player. She was a four-time Howard County Player of the Year and twice was named the Baltimore Sun and Washington Post Player of the Year. Speierman was an extraordinary pitcher. She pitched a perfect game in the state final, which included a state tournament record 19 strikeouts to lead the Golden Bears to the county’s first state softball title. Speierman accepted a full college scholarship to the University of Michigan. The Wolverines were Big 10 champions all four years she was there and went to the Women’s College Word Series in 2013.
