Glenelg Country and St. Mary’s girls lacrosse will play at the US Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks on March 16 at 6:30 p.m.
This will be the second high school girls lacrosse game played at the complex this season, following a contest between Mercy and Kinkaid (Texas) on March 15.
“We are excited to have an opportunity to play against Glenelg [Country] in the new state of the arc lacrosse facility,” St. Mary’s coach Mindy Jones said in a press release. “Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport and it is exciting for our program to be one of the first teams to utilize this great facility against a great opponent.”
The US Lacrosse Headquarters opened to the public in September of 2016 and is in its second full season hosting games at Tierney Field. The campus also includes a three-story administrative center, named after the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), and features the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum.
“This is a great opportunity for our team to not only play a game at the same facility in which the National teams train but to also tour the Hall of Fame Museum to learn about the history of the game they love to play,” St. Mary’s Director of Athletics Allison Fondale said in a release.
This game will serve as the season opener for St. Mary’s and the second contest for Glenelg Country, which opens the season against Notre Dame Prep on March. 13.
But should one or both of the teams perform well during the regular season, they’ll have a chance to return to the US Lacrosse Headquarters for the IAAM A Conference Championship on May 11.
