Terry Eberhardt up for music educator Grammy award [Marriottsville/Sykesville/Woodstock]

When the 57th annual Grammy Awards air on Feb. 8, 2015, Marriotts Ridge High School students and staff might see a familiar face.

Terry Eberhardt, the former vocal instructor and choir director at Marriotts Ridge, has been nominated for the Music Educator Award. This year, 7,000 nominations were submitted from all 50 states. Mr. Eberhardt is one of 25 semi-finalists from around the country to be nominated for this prestigious honor.

This is the second year the Academy and the Grammy Foundation will honor a local hero. The Academy and Grammy foundation launched this award to bring attention to the wonderful work music teachers across the nation bring to their schools.

The 10 finalists will be announced in December with the winner being announced during Grammy week. When asked how this nomination made him feel, Mr. Eberhardt said that he is "super excited and stoked for Marriotts Ridge High School. However, it's amazing to just be nominated!"

Mr. Eberhardt spent four years in Montgomery County before completing his masters and opening Marriotts Ridge High School back in 2005. I think it goes without saying that past and present Mustangs, along with the rest of Howard County, hope to see you at the Grammys on Feb. 8.

The Community Outreach committee at West Friendship Elementary School is holding its annual coat drive. They are looking for new or gently used coats, hats, gloves and scarves in sizes from infant to adult. The items may be dropped off at the front office until Oct. 24.
