Plenty of events take place in busy October [West Laurel]

We are racing through October in all its autumnal glory and the seasonal events are adding up.

This is a busy time of year with the kids in school, Scouts, soccer and basketball. Everyone is running around.

There are a some dates to mark on your calendar including the West Laurel Civic Association meeting night, Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the West Laurel Community Building. It will be covering a plethora of issues regarding our community so come on up, meet some new neighbors and find out what’s happening right here at home.

Get all the little ghosts and goblins, princesses and star troopers or whatever Halloween costumes ready for Trick or Treat on Main Street in Laurel on Thursday, Oct. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult and pets are not allowed. The Woman’s Club of Laurel is just one of the many organizations and businesses on Main Street who will be handing out candy to the trick or treaters. This event is very well attended and is great fun for all.

The West Laurel Civic Association Dumpster Day will be held on Nov. 3 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.(or sooner if the dumpsters fill up) at the West Laurel Community Building parking lot. The electronics dumpster will take old TVs, computers and other electronics. Document shredding service will also be available from 9 to 11 a.m A horse trailer will also be available to collect items to be repurposed which will be donated to a local charity for re-use.

St. Mary of the Mills Christmas Bazaar will be held on Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Keesler Center which is across the street from the church at St. Mary’s Place. Visit Granny’s Attic which is one huge yard sale; enjoy children’s activities with crafts and pictures with Santa; there will be lots of raffles; an International eatery, great food, old-fashioned bake sale, music and something for everyone of all ages.

Tom’s Reindeer Run is in its 17th year in remembrance of a beautiful teenager, Tommy Linsenmeyer. The 5K run or walk is on Saturday, Nov. 24, the Saturday before Thanksgiving. It is open to all walkers and runners of all ages. The Linsenmyer family organizes this 5K event and raises funds for Sarah’s House in Fort Meade. The course runs through West Laurel and ends up back at the West Laurel Community Building, Registration is open now through Thanksgiving evening and before 7:30 a.m. on event day. The fee is $35.

The Bond Mill Craft Fair has been cancelled this November due to conflicting schedules of all the staff and volunteers who organize it. This event will be re-scheduled for sometime in February. It will be bigger and better. The Bond Mill family apologizes for any inconvenience this causes anyone.

Election Day is Nov. 6 Public schools are closed. Please be sure to get out and vote. Every vote counts.
