Laurel community asked to run or walk to support college access

First Generation College Bound invites community to annual 5K

First Generation College Bound invites community members to sign up for its 12th annual 5K Run and 2-Mile Walk fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 3.

Now in its 25th year, FGCB helps low- to moderate-income, at risk, and underrepresented students from Prince George's County Public Schools to achieve success in high school and attend college.

"FBCB operates four core and interrelated programs that are demonstrated best practices for increasing high school graduation rate of at-risk students ensuring their success to higher education," according to the organization's website. "The combination of FGCB program exposure and support from the community allows the students to gain self-confidence and emerge as great leaders for the future."

To participate, runners must register at www.fgcb.org, www.active.com, or at the race. Participants in the run or walk must be at the starting line at Laurel High School by 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 3.

Following the run and walk, participants are invited to attend Laurel High School's Community Day, which will feature games, raffles, and music.
