Laurel police on Friday arrested and charged the estranged wife of Laurel resident and former FBI investigator Scott Horn in connection with his death.
Anne Reed Allen, 62, was arrested June 30 and charged with first and second degree murder as well as conspiracy to commit murder and the use of a handgun in a crime of violence. Allen is currently being held without bond at the Prince George's Correctional Facility.
Allen's attorney, Andrew Jezic, maintained that his client is innocent, claiming that the case against her is a "very weak circumstantial case."
According to Jezic, Allen and Horn were not estranged at the time of his death, but were in fact living together and trying to make their marriage work.
"She's a good person," Jezic said.
Horn died the night of March 16, and his death was immediately ruled a homicide, according to a statement from Laurel Police Chief Richard McLaughlin. Allen was identified as a suspect, and detectives from the Laurel Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division, with the assistance of Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit, spent four months building a case against her before issuing an arrest warrant for Allen, McLaughlin said in the statement.
Horn was found dead in his yard by police around 9 p.m., with "major trauma" to his upper body.
According to Atlas Public Records, Horn owned seven properties throughout the city of Laurel.
A family member said Horn was among the FBI investigators during the 2002 sniper attacks across Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. that left 10 people dead and another three injured. Two men, John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo, began their shooting spree in October 2002 in Aspen Hill and were arrested more than three weeks later at a rest stop along Interstate 70 in Myersville.
An FBI spokeswoman confirmed that Horn was a former employee.
The investigation into Horn's death is still ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Laurel Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division at 301-498-8002.
