From a Laurel home, Yeobo Bags make upcycled handbags stylish

Michele Armstrong Howe, 50, decided to pursue her design talents after 24 years with the Air Force. That meant making handbags from upcycled materials and fabrics. She launched Yeobo Bags ( in October out of her Laurel home.

Yeobo is a term of endearment in Korean culture as well as the name of the bag that spy plane pilots carry with them in the cockpit that contains items from their spouses.

“I liked the concept of that bag and what it meant,” she says. The bags, which range in price from $60 to $250, will be sold at Homespun in Glyndon.

What’s next? In addition to her custom designs, a tattoo-inspired collection of bags.
