Lamp & Gift brings a Korean art form to Main Street Ellicott City

Since February, Young Lee has been lighting up Main Street with his custom paper lamps, art and gifts.

Lee ran Lamp & Gift in Long Island, N.Y., for 10 years before moving to the area.

“I heard about this historic area and I thought that it was a great match because of the history behind the materials I use for my products,” Lee says.

All of the lamps in the store are handmade with hanji, a traditional Korean paper made from mulberry bark with long fibers that Lee says make it stronger than other papers. The lamps feature artful designs or customers’ personal photos, ranging in price from $82 to $102.

The store is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
