New Mall in Columbia barber shop specializes in African-American hair

For Tashaun Pierre and her husband, Michael, bringing their barber shop and salon to Columbia was a no-brainer.

“I love the community feel,” Pierre, a co-owner, says.

Friendly Faces Premium, which specializes in black hair, opened a 1,600-square-foot space at the Mall in Columbia in November. This is the fourth iteration of Friendly Faces Barbershop Health & Beauty Salons & Spas, which has locations in the Washington, D.C., suburbs.

The Columbia location features 13 styling chairs and offers cuts, facials, coloring, styling, hair weaves and a stylist specializing in natural hair.

Pierre stressed that all hair types are welcome. “We know our hair and everyone else’s as well,” she says.
