Howard County will hold its second annual Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. beginning at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 3695 Rogers Ave., in Ellicott City.
Marchers will take their positions around 9 a.m. and head out two hours later, starting from Rogers Avenue and finishing in parking Lot F, located to the left of Ellicott Mills Drive.
A short ceremony will follow with a speech by County Executive Allen Kittleman.
The parade took place last year on Main Street but because of the continuing recovery from the July flood, it will take follow a route on nearby roads this year.
Main Street businesses that have not reopened will have tables set up in Lot F to sell their merchandise.
"We want to continue our tradition of honoring our veterans while at the same time supporting the Ellicott City businesses affected by the flood," said Lisa Terry, manager for the Howard County Office of Veterans and Military Families.
The Columbia Association will also hold its own event, Veterans Day at the Lake, on Nov. 11 at noon at the Columbia Lakefront, featuring a series of speakers, including Kittleman; a performance by the Columbia Center for Theatrical Arts; and a brass quintet musical performance.
