'Chili Cook-Off'

Fifteen local churches will compete Sunday, March 9, at the Church of the Resurrection, 3175 Paulskirk Drive, to see whose chili recipe can raise the most money for Bridges to Housing Stability, an organization that helps families on the verge of homelessness. At 12:30 p.m., each congregation will provide samples, and guests will vote on their favorites by placing cash and checks in tip jars. Free. Information: 410-312-5760.

English conversation

The Miller branch of the Howard County Public Library, 9421 Frederick Road, offers "Let's Get Together: English Conversation Club," a chance for those for whom English is a second language to practice speaking and understanding English in a group setting. 'Amhranai Na Gaeilge' "The Irishman's Chorale" performs at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 18.

Beyond Beginners Line Dancing Mary McCormick leads a line dancing class for students who are familiar with basic line dancing at 3:30 p.m. Thursdays through March 13. Cost is $53.

Blood pressure screenings Stop in from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays for free blood pressure readings by a registered nurse. Information: 410-313-1425.

'Family Bibles and Obituaries' A genealogy class meets from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 12.

Senior safety tips Pfc. Andre Lingham, liaison of the Howard County Police Department, will talk about current scams as well as safety concerns in and around the community at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 13.

Ask the Pharmacist Don Hamilton will provide the latest updates and information concerning medications at 11 a.m. Monday, March 24. Bring your questions, drug lists or prescription containers for discussion.

Bingo Enjoy an afternoon of bingo beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 26. Cost is $4.

Nutrition counseling Rona Martiyan presents nutrition tips and gives information on personal nutrition from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 19.

Tapping with Jackie Dance class meets from 2 p.m to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays, March 12-April 16. Cost is $40.

Watercolor with Carole Zink Art class meets from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays, April 2-May 7. Cost is $40.
