The members of the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post 8185 met on Wed., Aug. 21 for their regular monthly meeting at the post home. They were joined by District 10 President Dee Russo from Earlville and Department Deputy Chief of Staff Heather Caleb from Chesapeake City. It was announced that the ladies from Post 8185 conducted a fundraiser to benefit District 10 and that $100 was raised and donated to that organization. The ladies also voted to pay for life memberships for the four remaining charter members who had joined the auxiliary back in 1955. The ladies have a President's Tea planned for Sunday, Sept. 15 and a Quarter Auction scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 29, both at the post home.

The Relay for Life of North East is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7 from noon until 8 p.m. at the North East United Methodist Church, 308 S. Main St. As part of this year's Relay, the "Cutest Baby Contest" will be held that day from 1 to 3 p.m. on the main stage. The entry fee is $5 before Sept. 5 and $7 after that. Darlington Volunteer Fire Company will sponsor an all-you-can-eat breakfast on Sunday, Sept. 8 in the fire hall at 2600 Castleton Road. Stop by for a scrumptious meal from 8 to 11 a.m.
The Port Deposit Heritage Corporation will sponsor a Basket and Bag Bingo on Saturday, Sept. 14 for its big annual fundraiser to support education, restoration and preservation efforts in our community. The bingo will be held at the Port Deposit VFW Post 8185, 520 Susquehanna River Road, and the doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with the games beginning at 7 p.m. All the prizes including the door prizes will be Longaberger or Vera Bradley products. The ticket price of $12 includes paper cards for 20 games and a chance on the door prizes. Raffle tickets, extra cards, and refreshments will be available for separate purchase.
