Forest Hill resident creates Real Flexi membership for multiple gyms

Short attention span when it comes to fitness? This Forest Hill resident may have found a solution.

“It came to me at 3 o’clock in the morning,” Forest Hill resident Lisa Quigley says of the inspiration for her new flexible fitness program, Real Flexi.

After her third child was born, Quigley found she could no longer get motivated to do her regular treadmill routine. She felt lost in the industrial setting of large gyms. Small, boutique-style fitness centers were more appealing, but she struggled to choose just one. That’s when Quigley’s background as a marketing manager came into play and she created Real Flexi.

Unlike other fitness memberships, Real Flexi doesn’t limit subscribers to one monotonous regimen. They aren’t even limited to one location. For $69 a month, Real Flexi offers an unlimited number of sessions at more than 30 studios throughout Harford County, Baltimore County and Baltimore City. Quigley continues to add new locations, including several in Cecil County and Delaware.

“It’s convenient if you work in the city and live in the county,” she points out. “You can do a lunchtime session at a studio in Federal Hill or Towson, and on another day, you can do an evening session in Bel Air.”

Real Flexi members also have the option of doing a different type of workout every day.

“Barre, bootcamp and yoga are the most popular right now,” Quigley says. Other available fitness activities include Dance Trance, Zumba, CrossFit and even paddleboard yoga.

Real Flexi members range in age from their 20s through their 60s. Some are triathletes, while others are just getting started.

Jodi Marschhauser, a Real Flexi member since December 2014, had already been going to Xfit in Bel Air but wanted to try classes the studio didn’t offer, such as Dance Trance and barre.

“It would be very expensive to have memberships at several boutique gyms,” she says. “This way, I’m able to support several local businesses at once. It’s the best of all worlds.”

Classes at the boutique studios are generally smaller than those held at large gyms, and Marschhauser sees that as another benefit. “You feel like you’re getting more attention from the instructor, and you have more room to enjoy your workout,” she says.

Quigley says Real Flexi is a win for everyone. “Studios like it because it’s exposure for them. Users like it because it makes fitness feel less like a chore and more like a fun destination,” she says.
