Second annual Soupfest soup contest to be held at Shrewsbury Fall Fest

The merchants of Shrewsbury's Historic Village will host the annual free Fall Fest in the Village on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Shrewsbury Fall Fest features more than 50 local vendors with products for sale ranging from handcrafted jewelry to fabulous foods.

Also featured will be the second annual "Soupfest",,a soup-making contest. The Soup Contest will offer a "taste" of what area cooks can offer – and will also be for sale for just 50 cents per cup after the judging.

All proceeds benefit the Shrewsbury Playground Fund or the volunteer fire company. Interested people may download an entry form from the website for entry rules and information. Cash prizes and gift items are given for the top three soups. The application fee is $20. The grand prize is $150, plus other nice gifts. Interested persons may visit and click on the soup contest entry application. Last year, local soup maker Fred Doepkens won first place and $150 for his delicious "cream of crab soup."

All proceeds from vendor rental spaces and soup sales benefit the Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Department and the Shrewsbury Playground Fund.

Free off-street parking is available at the Shrewsbury Fire Hall, local business parking lots and The Factory parking lot.
