Baltimore Sun’s BEST party in 2 weeks

Thanks for making Independence Day successful in HdG [letter]

On behalf of the Havre de Grace Independence Celebration Committee, I want to express our sincere thanks to all who were involved with organizing, participating and spectating at the annual carnival, parade, concert and fireworks. The extreme heat this year made it especially challenging for all those involved, and I can't tell you how many super positive comments I heard from some of the out of town groups about how amazed they were to see Union Avenue so crowded, and so enthusiastic. It is because of that reason that we continue to attract so many quality bands from states like Minnesota, Florida, North Carolina and New Jersey. They simply LOVE to come to Havre de Grace!

Very special thank yous need to go to all of our local municipal organizations who help us make these events possible: Mayor Wayne Dougherty and the City Council (as well as their staffs),the DPW members (led by Joe Conaway), the City Yacht Basin crew(Steve and Mike), Chief Theresa Walter and her police force as well as the help they received from Aberdeen Police, Harford County Sheriff's Dept. and Maryland State Police, Susquehanna Hose Co. and the HdG Ambulance Corps. We also need to recognize and thank members of the HdG Lions Club who, again this year, WALK the whole parade route collecting donations to help support these events! All of these organizations helped create a SAFE and ENJOYABLE atmosphere for our events. Finally, we want to thank all of the Havre de Grace citizens, friends of HdG and the many businesses who contributed both money and "in-kind" donations to our committee so that we can continue to keep this great tradition going! Please check out our website: View all of the loyal sponsors that help us, and if you see someone missing, encourage them to contribute to this community treasure. It doesn't take a lot from just a few; it takes a little from the very many!

Thank YOU Havre de Grace! Without your help and approval we could not do this every year, and we look forward to doing again next year, on July 5th, 2014!!

Committee Chairman
