SARC, a non-profit right in the heart of Harford County, feels not only "liked", but loved!
SARC was nominated by a local Liberty Mutual personal insurance agent, Lee Tayson, to participate in the "Like My Community" program, where SARC had the chance to win $30,000 based on the number of votes they gathered. On Aug. 20, after two months of online and mobile text voting, SARC came in third place, which qualified them for the $30,000.
Since 1978, SARC has provided hope and resources to victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, child abuse and stalking. Services are provided at no cost to victims and their families. These include a 24-hour helpline, counseling, legal representation, a 28-bed confidential safe house and community outreach and education. SARC was faced with significant budgetary cuts from local, state and federal sources this year, so the invitation to participate in Liberty Mutual's "Like My Community" campaign came at an opportune time.
"The response to the Like My Community Program has been overwhelming," says Luisa Caiazzo-Nutter, executive director. "The support that the community has given us is key in allowing us to provide these vital services and will remind every victim who feels alone that there are caring people who want them to be free from violence."
Because of the community's support, SARC will be able to continue all of their helpful services free to its clients.
