Fire damages ATM at credit union branch in Forest Hill

APG Federal Credit Union said an outdoor ATM at its Forest Hill branch caught fire at 9:05 a.m. Friday, forcing the temporary closure of the branch for a few hours.

The Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company extinguished the fire and all credit union members and employees were safe and unharmed, the credit union said in a news release.

The credit union later said the branch had reopened at noon Friday.

The free standing ATM where the fire was is in a drive-through lane at the branch at 2010 Rock Spring Road.

The fire was isolated in the ATM and appears to have been caused by an electrical wire connected to an air conditioning unit in the ATM housing, the credit union said.

"All of our people are safe and they are our priority. Our next steps are to determine the cause, repair the damage and review our facility," said Don Lewis, APGFCU president/CEO, in the credit union's news release.
